India Strikes Pakistan Air Defences, Alleges Islamabad Behind Drone Attacks

New Delhi, May 8, 2025 — Tensions flared between India and Pakistan on Thursday as India announced that it had carried out precision strikes targeting Pakistani air defence systems along the Line of Control (LoC). The move comes amid rising hostilities and follows what Indian officials have called a "series of unprovoked drone attacks" launched from Pakistani territory.

In a statement released by the Ministry of Defence, India claimed its forces responded to escalating threats by neutralizing "specific radar and surface-to-air missile installations" located in Pakistan-administered Kashmir. The strikes, said to have been conducted late Wednesday night, were described as "limited, targeted, and necessary to protect national security."

“India has the right to protect its sovereignty. We cannot ignore repeated airspace violations and drone infiltrations,” said Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh during a press conference. He further alleged that several drones recovered on Indian soil in recent weeks had Pakistani military signatures.

Pakistan's Foreign Office swiftly condemned the strikes, calling them a "blatant act of aggression" and vowed to respond "at a time and place of its choosing." Islamabad has denied any involvement in the alleged drone incursions and accused New Delhi of fabricating a narrative to justify cross-border aggression.

The Pakistani military confirmed "minor damages" from the Indian airstrikes but claimed most of the projectiles were intercepted. “Our forces remain on high alert, and any further misadventure will be met with full force,” said a statement from Pakistan’s Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

International observers have expressed concern about the escalating conflict between the two nuclear-armed nations. The United Nations and several global leaders have urged both sides to exercise restraint and open channels for diplomatic dialogue.

This latest development marks the most serious confrontation between the neighbors since the 2019 Balakot airstrikes, raising fears of a broader military conflict in the region.
